SOLAR ACCESS & STRESS MITIGATION

After assessing the overheating period on a shading time table and the solar stress impact on a massing model, one can then design an appropriate shading device that will block the unwanted solar gains.

The effectiveness of the various shading device configurations can be determined by computing simple thermal analyses passes, and weighting them against beneficial winter solar gains.

Solar and light access analyses can be done to identify when – and how much - a particular structure will be shading another.  This type of study can be used to show compliance with certain city right-to-light requirements.
